Apple Introduces New Polishing Cloth For All Devices, Sold Separately for $19 (9to5mac.com)

Alongside the new MacBook Pros, Apple has added a new first party polishing cloth to the Apple Store. The new polishing cloth is a soft white with an embossed Apple logo. From a report:

Why not use just matte screens? Does anyone actually prefer these shiny screens?

You get better contrast out of those shiny screens, while matte screens always have a bit of scattering.

Plus it can double as a mirror where you can discretely check if your human disguise hides your reptilian face still well enough.

I've gotten branded guitar polishing cloths in this price range for a very long time. Granted, generic microfiber, like almost all of them are, is cheaper, but sometimes you just wanna grab a cloth at the store and not wait for shipping.

You can pick up three 12x10 microfiber cloths at Pep Boys for about $5.

How much of a hurry could you possibly be in to buy a branded cloth rather than stop at another store on your way home? Are you eating them?

Fake news. Apple is only claiming that it's compatible with every single product that Apple makes. There are no promises of compatibility with devices from other manufacturers.

Well it is much much better than all the competitors in this space, Apple is first to make a cloth that is compatible between devices. Think of the savings of not having to find the right cloth for each device in your draw full of polishing cloths.

That's a good point. My wife has an iPhone and MacBook. Different connectors (and not compatible with USB C).

Glad that Apple if finally heading for convergence (at least with Polishing Cloth). No walled garden here!

It's why Apple bought out Beats by Dre. Apple isn't so much a computer company as they are a lifestyle company. Which is why they can completely wreck compatibility with previous software and shrug it off while Microsoft struggles to keep software from 1995 running in Windows 11.
