SAP portal outage raises questions over vendor's cloud readiness

(2025/11/17)

SAP has apologized for the recent outage of its SAP for Me portal, a cloud-based tool that gives users a view of their SAP functions, metrics, and service. But the downtime has opened up some reliability questions.

The ERP giant's status page for the service shows three outages in the last 90 days, including one incident that lasted nearly 11 hours. Critics view the performance as evidence that the vendor is not ready to provide the cloud-only services it so keenly promotes.

An SAP spokesperson said: "We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the recent degradation of the SAP for Me portal. Our technical teams have successfully resolved the issue and restored full functionality. The identified solution is currently undergoing close monitoring to ensure its effectiveness and stability. We remain in continuous contact with our customers and are committed to providing timely updates throughout this process."

When [2]SAP for Me was first announced in 2019 , the German tech vendor said it would give customers personalized access and a transparent view of their entire product portfolio. "In real time, users will be able to access their support incidents, cloud consumption, product details list and their learning status," the company said.

Online, one SAP for Me user said if SAP is to be seriously considered as a cloud-first company, trusted by clients to run their businesses, then it must demonstrate that it can get the basics right.

[9]He said SAP should show how it is getting to the root cause of the problem behind the outages and what it is doing to resolve the situation.

The outage affects SAP customers trying to keep implementations, upgrades, and patching on track as those tasks rely on a stable SAP support service.

One consultant said SAP is pushing everyone to RISE with SAP, its partnership program designed to move legacy systems to the cloud then upgrade them to the latest S/4HANA platform. They said customers used to run their own ticketing system, but now SAP for Me does it in the cloud. "And if the ticket system itself goes down... well, it's a wee bit of a problem," they told The Register .

RISE with SAP [11]was introduced in January 2021 , promising a lift and shift of complex SAP environments into the public, private, and hybrid clouds without first going through a daunting standardization exercise. The next step is to move to the latest S/4HANA ERP platform, which usually involves customers abandoning customizations built on their old platform over time and adopting standard processes and a "clean core" for ERP, as SAP puts it. ®
