"After installing the February 2025 Security update (KB5051987), released February 11, 2025, and later updates, on Windows Server 2025 devices, you might experience Remote Desktop sessions freezing shortly after connection," the advisory [1]reads .
"When this issue occurs, mouse and keyboard input become unresponsive within the session, requiring users to disconnect and reconnect."
[2]
Redmond hasn't given a date for when the fix will be available for the Server operating system, implying the issue is non-trivial to resolve.

Microsoft noted a similar malfunction affected Windows 11 version 24H2 that caused UDP-based Remote Desktop sessions to disconnect after 65 seconds when connecting to Windows Server 2016 or earlier. The glitch started in January but it seems the March security update caused a big increase in the number of people getting cut off.

"This issue was resolved by Windows updates released March 27, 2025 (KB5053656), and later. We recommend you install the latest update for your device as it contains important improvements and issue resolutions, including this one," Microsoft [8]advised .
"If you have an enterprise-managed device and have installed the update released March 27, 2025 (KB5053656) or later, you do not need to use a Known Issue Rollback (KIR) or a special Group Policy to resolve this issue."
When asked, Microsoft said it had nothing more to add about the situation. ®

Question
"When this issue occurs, mouse and keyboard input become unresponsive within the session, requiring users to disconnect and reconnect "
How, if KB and mouse stop working?
Re: Question
"...within the session..."
The remote connection freezes - not the client computer - so you just close the connection by pressing the X button on the RDP window. If it's a full screen connection, then the connection bar on top of the screen has the X button.
In any case, the three-finger-salute will always show the local Windows Security screen where you can start Task Manager to kill the connection.
MS need to apportion resources better.
The largest budget needs to be the Department of Internal Failure, fixing things that all the other departments broke.

that's helpful when your boxes are running in Azure and RDP is basically the only way to jump on and do stuff without the luxury of a console session. Even Bastion is RDP
