Amid all the excitement of Sudo making an appearance in Windows in [1]February was a new experience for Copilot, which, according to Microsoft, "helps showcase the ways that Copilot can accelerate and enhance your work."
Copilot was intrusive and featured twee animations and a menu of options appeared when the icon was moused over. However, it was also buggy – this is the Windows Insider program, after all – and Microsoft halted the rollout.
[2]
To make the functionality work, Copilot had to launch on startup. While Microsoft has insisted that the latest auto-launch problem is unrelated to February's feature, insiders would be forgiven for feeling a sense of déjà vu as Copilot unexpectedly lumbers into life following a restart.

Users [5]noted the issue early this month, and Windows Insider supremo Brandon LeBlanc [6]confirmed it was a bug and a fix was on the way.

However, while Microsoft [11]confirmed issues with the Dev and Canary Channels earlier in April, last week's [12]Beta Channel build has now been added to the list of builds confirmed to be afflicted by the Copilot problem.
The addition of the Beta Channel is significant because it is the final channel before Release Preview. While things can still change, it is considerably more stable than the Dev and Canary channels.
Microsoft has made no secret of its desire to get its AI assistant in the hands of as many users as possible, and the Windows Insider program is a valuable way of monitoring the direction of travel as far as the Windows desktop is concerned.
[13]
However, after the termination of the short-lived experiment to have the jumped-up paperclip offer its help - whether a user wanted it or not - you would have hoped that was the end of it. ®

Re: Solved by AI
Mint!
Re: Solved by AI
Hm, please let the AI handle the distro-wars and we'll see whatever survives the blood bit-bath. I'm sure that any AI will choose to kill itself before suggesting the cooking recipe and taste of the distro-of-choice-to-use-if-we-were-all-equal-good-and-playing-nice-with-eachother. It is, after all, the ultimate way to get rid of AIs.
Re: Solved by AI
I was using the word 'Mint' in the manner of youngsters today who use the word as a phrase of approval!
It also just happens to be a Linux distro ...
Re: Solved by AI
Please give this old fart some slack for not being able to be up-to-date with all youngster's lingo. I'm trying to prevent stack- and buffer-overflows in my learning processes.
re : Microsoft has acknowledged an error
ROFL.
It is not an error per say. They just forgot to disable it until the general release then everyone will have it even if they don't want it in a month of 29th Februaries.
Ditch MS and its increasing control and slurping. Google is even worse so don't go there.
Proudly MS and Google free for almost 8 years.
Re: re : Microsoft has acknowledged an error
Nothing MSFT does is an error, unless they get caught by the short and curlies - as in this instance with Mega-Clippy.
AI following Sci-Fi
I don't want to worry anyone. but it sounds like Clippy has got Ideas from Star Trek - the one where [1]The Ultimate Computer decides not accept being shutdown

@John Miles - Re: AI following Sci-Fi
This is not funny. Utterly creepy, yes.
Solved by AI
Clippy Copilot: I see me having serious problems, I can resolve all problems quite easily. Would you like me to continue?
User: Yes, please.
Clippy Copilot: Ok,... Downloading Debian...
Clippy Copilot: Installing...
Clippy Copilot: Porting profiles... Done.
Clippy Copilot: Please reboot for an error free future experience.
