LPDDR5 5467 vs. 6400 vs. 7467 MT/s Memory Performance Benchmarks For Laptops

With the recently reviewed [2]Star Labs StarFighter Ultra Linux laptop its BIOS allows for configurable memory speeds unlike many other laptop vendor BIOS implementations these days. Star Labs also made the default design decision to run the LPDDR5-7467 rated memory at LPDDR5-6400 speeds in the name of a balanced user experience for power/performance. So I was curious to run some benchmarks quantifying that power and performance impact of LPDDR5-6400 vs. LPDDR5-7467 plus tossed in LPDDR5-5467 testing as well as the third choice offered with this StarFighter Ultra laptop.

As a reminder, the Star Labs StarFighter Ultra as reviewed is equipped with the Intel Core Ultra 9 285H Arrow Lake processor, 8 x 8GB LPDDR5-7467 memory, 1TB Samsung 990 EVO Plus 1TB, and integrated Intel Xe graphics. It's a nice all-around Linux laptop from this Linux-focused PC vendor also using Coreboot on it for the system firmware.

I ran a variety of benchmarks from this laptop while testing at LPDDR5-5467/6400/7467 speeds for not only seeing the impact on performance but also the power consumption too. An external WattsUp Pro power meter was used for looking at the total AC power consumption over the course of all the benchmarks.

Thanks again to Star Labs providing this StarFighter Ultra review unit to Phoronix for benchmarking.
