With the upcoming Linux 7.4 kernel the necessary changes to the AMD P-State driver are set to land for properly supporting the upcoming AMD Ryzen client processors based on the Zen 6 cores.
The AMD P-State changes for Linux 7.4 were sent out on Sunday to the Linux power management subsystem's "-next" Git branch for staging ahead of the v7.4 merge window happening in late October.
The amd-pstate driver changes include initial support for maximum CPU frequency capacity handling on Zen 6 client processors. There is also updated Energy Performance Preference (EPP) tuning for Ryzen Zen 6 client processors. This includes tuning across the standard performance and and power/dense cores as well as the new low-power core type coming with Zen 6 client designs. That tuning work was further explained in the recent [1]AMD Ryzen Zen 6 CPU Power Values Being Further Tuned For Linux article.
Plus [2]the amd-pstate pull request also has a few bug fixes identified by the Sashiko AI agent.
Long story short, it's looking like [3]Linux 7.4 is looking like it may be the good baseline for the upcoming AMD Ryzen Zen 6 client processors expected to be launched in early 2027. Linux 7.4 stable should be out around the end of December.
