In 2024 [1]Canonical generated nearly $300M USD in revenue for this company behind Ubuntu Linux and other services and software solutions. For 2025, they not only broke $300M but well exceeded it with $345M in revenue.
Today's discussions over [2]Alibaba contributing $3M to Omarchy and now having attracted more than $20M in commitments to their Omacom Foundation, I realized I forgot to dig into the Canonical finances for the last year as an annual, mid-year ritual as around the time when they typically file their statements with UK's Companies House. Their 2025 annual report was filed and was another stellar year for the company.
Canonical's revenue grew from $292M USD in 2024 to $345M USD in 2025. They maintained an 89% gross margin. Quite a nice jump in revenue year-over-year and especially when considering just five years prior they were at [3]$138M in revenue for 2020 .
Their headcount increased just ever so slightly in 2026 with going from an average of 596 employees to 607. The annual report does indicate that the "overall team" increased by 10% to 1,342 at the end of 2025. The report also noted that 20.4% of the team are women, up from 19.1% the year prior.
With the $345M in revenue, they turned a $22.8M profit for the year, up from $18.1M in profit from 2024. Not bad when it wasn't too long ago [4]they had still been operating at a loss up to 2019.
