Wine 11.17 Released With Initial Support For Display Mode Emulation

Wine 11.17 is out today as the newest bi-weekly feature development release for this software enabling Windows games and apps to run on Linux.

Arguably most exciting with today's Wine 11.17 release is having initial display mode emulation support. Rémi Bernon led this work to allow OpenGL scaling according to the emulated resolution. It's also described as OpenGL rendering virtualization. The rendering is done to the expected virtual size and then rendered to the actual physical-sized host window.

Wine 11.17 also pulls in the new [1]VKD3D 2.1 release for Direct3D 12 atop Vulkan.

Wine 11.17 additionally has better support for preferred UI languages and then a total of 44 known bug fixes. The bug fixes for the past two weeks really are wide-ranging from different new and old games to many app fixes.
