As part of Valve's upcoming Qualcomm-powered Steam Frame headset, Valve has been collaborating with Collabora on the Arch Linux AArch64 base for their platform. Published today are the initial sources and binaries of this "Holo Core" base of Arch Linux AArch64 to be used by the Steam Frame.
Collabora announced today the initial Holo Core binaries and sources for this pure AArch64 port of Arch Linux that is being used as the basis for the operating system running the Steam Frame. Due to upstream Arch Linux lacking official AArch64, this also required additional tooling and continuous integration (CI) infrastructure work.
The purpose of this Holo Core drop now is for allowing others to explore this Arch Linux AArch64 port. Beyond the source code, binary packages and a Docker container are available.
This isn't a complete rebuild of Arch Linux for AArch64 but as explained in today's blog post:
"At this stage, we have not rebuilt the entire world (all the packages available in the Arch Linux repositories). Our initial goal is to provide the set of packages required for development and image creation for the Steam Frame. Even when limiting ourselves to this subset of Arch Linux packages, including these packages along with their runtime and build dependencies still results in several thousand packages."
