Today the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D goes on sale as the lowest-price AMD 3D V-Cache processor being marketed for gamers. This 8-core / 16-thread processor features a 4.5GHz boost clock and a total of 104MB of cache while being based on the older Zen 4 architecture and coming in at about $329 USD. Here is a look at how the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D is performing on Linux.

The review embargo is now lifted on the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D with this Zen 4 desktop processor going on sale today at major Internet retailers. The suggested price for this lowest-cost AMD AM5 3D V-Cache processor is $329 USD which puts it well below the current ~$416 price of the Ryzen 7 7800X3D while this new part is clocked 200MHz lower for the base clock and the maximum boost clock drops from 5.0GHz to 4.5GHz. The Ryzen 7 7700X3D if it holds around $329 USD is also well cheaper than the Ryzen 7 9800X3D at around $444 or the Ryzen 7 9700X (non-X3D) at around $339. For games and workloads that benefit from 3D V-Cache, the Ryzen 7 7790X3D has the potential to be an interesting fit for those looking to upgrade to an AMD AM5 platform on a budget or other factors where they may have a spare AM5 motherboard they want to populate with a cost effective 3D V-Cache processor, etc.

The AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D has a TDP rating of 120 Watts, the same as the Ryzen 7 7800X3D.

With the AMD AM5 platform support being quite mature at this point already, the Linux support for the Ryzen 7 7700X3D is in good standing and with being on the older AMD Zen 4 architecture the compiler support for the znver4 target and the like have been around for quite a while at this stage. In my testing of the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D on Linux, there have been no compatibility issues to note.

All processors were (re)benchmarked on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS with Linux 7.0.
There is a second run of the Ryzen 7 7700X3D data in this article with "- New BIOS" due to moving to a newer ASRock BIOS than when the fresh (re)benchmarking of these processors started. I was surprised by the low power consumption / power efficiency that I wanted to try a new BIOS to confirm no major differences. There weren't. And all CPUs were tested in their default/auto TDP modes and the like with no ECO mode or lower TDP tunables changed.
