Just a week after the [1]COSMIC Epoch 1.1 release with [2]its slick new system monitor , COSMIC Epoch 1.2 is now available for this Rust-based desktop developed by System76.

With COSMIC Epoch 1.2 one of the notable changes is to the COSMIC compositor to fix a quirk with newer Intel graphics. Some users since Meteor Lake have reported flickering issues and carried over too for Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake. COSMIC-Workspaces has been carrying a workaround while now the compositor has implemented its workaround of not attempting DMA copies from newer Intel chips when copying between the Intel iGPU and any AMD/NVIDIA discrete GPU such as commonly on laptops.

The COSMIC Compositor also brings a fix for flickering when opening the workspaces overview. COSMIC Background meanwhile has added AVIF image support. Other COSMIC Epoch 1.2 changes include applet updates, the COSMIC launcher flickering when the launcher opens, and various other fixes.
