DreamWorks' Open-Source MoonRay Renderer Now Part Of The Academy Software Foundation

Back in 2022 it was announced [1]DreamWorks Animation was open-sourcing their MoonRay renderer that has been used in production feature films. It ended up [2]being published as open-source in March 2023 as OpenMoonRay and since then has [3]continued advancing with new feature releases and improvements. Now it's being contributed to the Academy Software Foundation as the newest project.

MoonRay is now the newest hosted project at the Academy Software Foundation alongside other projects like OpenColorIO, OpenEXR, OpenVDB, and the Open Shading Language. This renderer has been used for films like How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, The Bad Guys, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Kung Fu Panda 4, The Wild Robot, and The Bad Guys 2.
