Steam Controller Mapping Merged To SDL Library

([Valve] 6 Hours Ago Steam Controller 2026)

A few days ago the widely-used SDL library [1]added support for the new Steam Controller without depending upon the Steam client . Now another improvement for the new Steam Controller has been merged to this widely-used library for cross-platform games/apps with software/hardware abstractions.

Overnight the Steam Controller (2026) mapping was merged to the Simple DirectMedia Layer so that all buttons are now properly mapped for the controller.

[2]This pull request opened on Friday and now merged to Git works through the Steam Controller mapping with the differences compared to the original Steam Controller.

It's now in [3]Git with continuing to improve the Steam Controller support for this important open-source library.

When managers hold endless meetings, the programmers write games.
When accountants talk of quarterly profits, the development budget is about
to be cut. When senior scientists talk blue sky, the clouds are about to
roll in.
Truly, this is not the Tao of Programming.
When managers make commitments, game programs are ignored. When
accountants make long-range plans, harmony and order are about to be restored.
When senior scientists address the problems at hand, the problems will soon
be solved.
Truly, this is the Tao of Programming.
