New AMDGPU Driver Pull Request For Linux 7.2 Preps For HDMI 2.1 FRL

([Radeon] 6 Hours Ago Linux 7.2 AMDGPU)

Sent out on Wednesday was the latest AMDGPU/AMDKFD driver pull request of new feature code ready for DRM-Next as the staging area ahead of the upcoming [1]Linux 7.2 kernel. This doesn't yet land the HDMI 2.1 enablement work that's finally been taking place but it is preparing for that with the FRL register headers now in place as part of this merge.

Yesterday's pull request doesn't yet include the actual functionality for [2]HDMI 2.1 Fixed Rate Link "FRL" or [3]HDMI 2.1 DIsplay Stream Compression "DSC" but it sets the stage for potentially seeing it happen in the next pull request.

What's included in this pull are the headers for all the FRL registers needed for HDMI 2.1. The registers for Display Core Next 3.0 / 3.1 / 3.2 series IP is all part of this pull. It's a necessary prerequisite for the Display Core patches to then be merged for making use of those registers.

Hopefully we see that HDMI 2.1 FRL/DSC support sent out as part of the AMDGPU DRM-Next pull for next week so it could still be in place for the Linux 7.2 merge window that is kicking off in mid-June.

Besides landing the HDMI 2.1 FRL registers, this week's pull request also brings some user-queue "UserQ" fixes, an OLED display fix, SR-IOV fixes, and Video Processing Engine 2.0 (VPE 2.0) support. On the AMDKFD compute kernel driver side is introducing a profiler API.

See [4]this pull request for this week's AMDGPU changes now ready for Linux 7.2.

Merged to DRM-Next last week for Linux 7.2 on the AMD Radeon side was another notable addition of [5]the "power module" to better align with Radeon Software on Windows behavior around display power management functionality.
