Dell & Lenovo Now Sponsoring The Linux Vendor Firmware Service

([LVFS] 3 Hours Ago Dell + Lenovo)

Dell and Lenovo have stepped up to become premier sponsors for the Linux Vendor Firmware Service (LVFS) that provides for seamless system firmware and device/component firmware updating under Linux with the Fwupd client.

Dell and Lenovo are the first two premier sponsors for the LVFS, complementing start-up sponsors of Framework Computer and Open Source Firmware Foundation. The Linux Foundation and Red Hat remain engineering support sponsors.

Many Dell and Lenovo systems over the years have supported firmware updating under Linux using Fwupd/LVFS, so it's great to see them now provide the highest-tier financial support to this open-source effort. A premier sponsorship level for LVFS is $100,000 USD in annual dues.

Dell and Lenovo becoming premier sponsors follows LVFS [2]calling for more companies to contribute code or sponsor .

Richard Hughes [3]announced these hardware vendors joining LVFS sponsorship as the project celebrates shipping more than 145 million firmware updates.

Humorix Holiday Gift Idea #9

Dial-A-Detective
$499.95/year; 1-888-BYE-SPAM

This detective firm is not what you'd expect. Instead of tracking murderers or
unfaithful husbands, this band of rogue private investigators goes after
something just as sinister -- spammers. For a modest annual retainer fee,
these spam detectives will track down the source of every piece of spam you
receive.

Using the latest in forensic technology, they will bring you the virtual scalp
of the spammer -- their name, home address, social-security number, and, more
importantly, credit card numbers. At this point you are free to pursue the
evil spammer as you see fit.

If your friend or relative is sick of receiving wave after wave of "Find Out
Anything About Anyone" spams, give them a subscription to Dial-A-Detective,
and they'll find out anything about any spammer -- for real.
