Intel's upcoming [1]Crescent Island product as a reminder is [2]a new inference-optimized Xe3P graphics card with 160GB of vRAM and targeting enterprise AI workloads. Intel's open-source Linux graphics driver engineers continue to be very busy enabling the driver support for Crescent Island as well as making broader Xe3P improvements.
Back in Linux 6.19 was [3]the very preliminary support for Crescent Island and that enablement work for "CRI" has continued in Linux 7.0, 7.1, and now more patches beginning to queue for what will be included with Linux 7.2.
This week's drm-xe-next pull request of new patches to go into DRM-Next ahead of the Linux 7.2 merge window in June includes more Crescent Island / Xe3P work. New code includes bringing up the system controller support for interacting with the system controller firmware on Crescent Island and other Xe3P discrete GPU platforms. There is also Observation Architecture (OA) performance monitoring improvements for CRI's device memory, Xe3P GT tuning fixes, and enabling HWMON energy attributes. The HWMON work for Crescent Island with Linux 7.2 will enable energy consumption reporting and being able to read the sustained power limit of the Crescent Island hardware.
Plus this week's Intel Xe driver patch queue includes a number of fixes, some memory leak fixes, and more code clean-ups. More details for those interested on these latest Intel Xe kernel graphics driver changes for Linux 7.2 via [4]this pull request . Look for more Intel graphics driver patch material targeting the Linux 7.2 cycle over the next few weeks.
