At the start of April was the peculiar announcement of [1]IBM collaborating with Arm on "dual architecture" hardware . The initial fruits of that collaboration at least are Linux kernel patches for [2]enabling ARM64 virtualization acceleration on IBM Z servers . As we approach the end of the month, IBM has now posted a second iteration of those patches for enabling AArch64 software to run on IBM s390 via the Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM).

IBM engineers today posted the second version of patches for ARM64 KVM on s390. The patches were still posted under a Request For Comments (RFC) flag and thus most likely not final form and further iterations expected before ultimately working their way potentially to the mainline kernel.

The second version of these ARM64 KVM s390 patches now use symlinks for the ARM headers rather than moving them, moving some more code to s390-specific directories, and various small issues have been resolved compared to the original patches posted at the beginning of April.

So with [3]this patch series , things are still moving along with this "dual architecture" effort of ARM64 virtualization support on IBM Z (s390) servers.
