As usual in recent years, there were many x86 platform driver changes merged this cycle for benefiting modern AMD Ryzen and Intel Core (Ultra) laptops. A variety of new features and laptop hardware support additions were merged for [1]Linux 7.1 .
For the ASUS WMI driver the battery charge threshold is now preserved during the boot process and there is improved screenpad power/brightness handling.
The HP WMI driver meanwhile added support for more Omen laptops: Omen 14-fb0xxx, 16-n0xxx, 16-wf1xxx, and Omen MAX 16-ak0xxxx.
Following the report back in January of [2]ThinkPads on Linux ready for improved trackpoint doubletap handling , the Linux 7.1 kernel has gone ahead and enabled toubletap by default for the Lenovo ThinkPad Trackpoint handling. There is a sysfs node for toggling the doubletap behavior.
A new x86 platform driver for Linux 7.1 is [3]the Bitland MIFS WMI driver for Bitland laptops to handle ACPI platform profiles, HWMON, keyboard backlight, GPU mode controls, hotkeys, and fan boost handling.
The Uniwill driver that was recently merged to the Linux kernel for notably benefiting TUXEDO Computers laptops continues being further enhanced. The Uniwill driver now allows setting the USB-C power/performance priority, adding the XMG Fusion 15 (L19) support, and enabling fine-grained features to the device line-up mapping. For more details see [4]TUXEDO Laptops Will Enjoy More Features With The Upstream Linux 7.1 Kernel .
Lastly the Intel int3472 adds support for the strobe LED for devices with a GPIO with DSM type 0x02 provide functionality for IR flood (strobe) illumination that until now has been unhandled by the Linux driver for Intel laptop web cameras.
