Genode OS 26.02 Halfway Done Migrating From GitHub To Codeberg

([Operating Systems] 6 Hours Ago Genode OS 26.02)

Genode OS 26.02 is out as the latest feature update to this open-source operating system framework that also serves as the basis for their Sculpt general purpose OS.

With Genode OS 26.02 they have been working on technical improvements as well as migrating the project away from GitHub and onto Codeberg. An increasing number of open-source projects are moving off of the Microsoft-owned GitHub with not liking the fact that GitHub Copilot and other AI are trained off Git repositories on GitHub, among other concerns. Thus Genode OS is moving to Codeberg.

Genode is halfway done in their migration in having moved over everything except for the main Genode repository. For Genode OS 26.05 in May they plan to have that main repository migrated.

Genode 26.02 on the technical side has introduced its own HID format to replace their earlier XML usage, made various API improvements, and the Linux device driver environment (DDE) has been updated against the Linux 6.18 LTS state.

Genode OS 26.02 also brings improvements to its TCP/IP stack, drops ARMv6 and in turn removes Raspberry Pi 1 support, and various other improvements.
