While for years open-source firmware enthusiasts have been after an open-source [1]Firmware Support Package "FSP" for Intel CPUs and back during Raja Koduri's tenure at Intel it sounded like it might happen, it has yet to happen. But at least with the forthcoming [2]Intel Core Ultra Series 3 "Panther Lake" there are some FSP improvements.

For those considering a Panther Lake laptop with [3]the first Core Ultra Series 3 laptops coming to market in the weeks ahead, there are some FSP improvements that haven't been talked about too much. Especially with the media attention on the Arc B390 graphics and CPU enhancements as the sexier features with [4]Panther Lake , at the firmware level with the FSP are some design improvements.

The Intel FSP is adding integrity protection and engineering improvements to simplify the bootloader process while being verifiable through the Intel Root of Trust.

ACPI support is also added to the FSP, independent update support is now available for the FSP to help with adaptations by Intel partners, and also real-time validation functionality.

Further improvements are also planned for the Intel FSP past Panther Lake.
