ReactOS Starts 2026 With Another "Major Step" Toward Windows NT6 Compatibility

([Operating Systems] 79 Minutes Ago Windows NT 6.x)

The ReactOS free software project is turning 30 this year and its "open-source Windows" OS ambitions remain. They are starting out this year with another "major step" towards Windows NT 6.0 compatibility.

ReactOS developers shared that after months of prep work, their MSVCRT implementation in ReactOS has been synced against the Wine 10.0 state. MSVCRT is the DLL as part of the Microsoft C Runtime library.

The ReactOS developers noted on [1]X that this importing of MSVCRT from Wine 10.0 results in a 30% decrease in API test failures and various newly working/improved application support. Plus being " Another major step for NT6 compatibility bringup achieved!!! "

The rebase was in works for the past number of months and covered in [2]this merge request .

"This fixes (roughly) 7574 out of 25517 test failures, i.e. 29.6% of all failures."

It will be very exciting to see what ReactOS can achieve in 2026.
