Since the 2022 release of [1]memtest86+ 6.0 as a rewrite of this long-used RAM testing utility, this open-source software has continued advancing nicely after a decade hiatus. Released on Sunday night was memtest86+ 8.0 as the latest iteration of this popular RAM tester for enthusiasts.

The memtest86+ 8.0 release can now be built with the Clang compiler and LLVM LLD linker. Plus there are many internal updates as well as now being able to provide a single binary that works for both UEFI and legacy boot environments.

Among the internal updates with memtest86+ 8.0 are supporting the latest AMD and Intel CPUs. Plus memtest86+ has faster detection of high core count CPUs, temperature reporting for DDR5 DIMMs, an optional dark mode, fixing DDR5 XMP 3.0 issues, better BadRAM support and reporting, better SPD detection, improved LoongArch architecture support, and other fixes and optimizations.
