In mid-2024, Bavarian PC vendor TUXEDO Computers began [1]teasing a Snapdragon X Elite powered Linux laptop with hopes of having it available by Christmas 2024. As we approach Christmas 2025, there still are no immediate signs of this new ARM-based TUXEDO laptop soon shipping but there are signs of life still with new Linux kernel patches posted for enabling this Snapdragon X Elite laptop.

It looks like TUXEDO Computers is still working to bring their Snapdragon X Elite Linux laptop to market. With it being rather quiet in recent months and [2]Qualcomm recently announcing the Snapdragon X2 Elite SoCs it remained to be seen if TUXEDO Computers was still pursuing their X1 Elite laptop. It looks like they are with new Linux kernel patches posted today.

TUXEDO's prior update on this laptop was back in April when [3]various features were still missing . In today's patches, they have re-based their Device Tree bindings against Linux 6.18-rc4. They also now have support for accelerated video decoding, audio, Bluetooth, web camera, fingerprint reader, HDMI-A port, QSEECOM, USB Type-A, and USB-C DP AltMode. A lot of functionality that customers would expect to find from a purchased laptop is now working -- thanks in part to other Qualcomm upstream Linux kernel contributions and now the DeviceTree additions to make use of it for this laptop.

The DeviceTree updates also confirm that Xiamen Technology Co. Ltd. as the vendor/manufacturer behind this laptop for TUXEDO.

With [4]these DT patches for the TUXEDO Elite 14 Gen 1 laptop it would appear that this Snapdragon X Elite laptop support is largely in good shape now. Though it remains to be seen when they will be formally announcing the product with what sort of timeline for shipping it and most importantly the pricing. With other Snapdragon X Elite laptops already available for over a year and the Snapdragon X2 series already announced by Qualcomm, hopefully TUXEDO Computers will manage to deliver competitive pricing. The [5]X Elite Linux performance can lag behind AMD Ryzen and Intel Core Ultra laptops but will be interesting to see how the TUXEDO Elite 14 Gen 1 performs and its battery life.

We'll see in the coming weeks if this TUXEDO Elite 14 Gen 1 DT support is ready for upstreaming with the Linux v6.19 kernel cycle that is kicking off in early December.
