AMD HIP-RT Is Stable For Blender 5.0 But Will Be Off By Default Until Blender 5.1

AMD's [1]HIP-RT is used by the Blender 3D modeling software for GPU-accelerated ray-tracing on Radeon GPUs. For Blender 5.0 the AMD HIP-RT support is expected to be declared "stable" but will not be enabled by default until Blender 5.1.

HIP-RT for Blender has been [2]in the works for a few years and an experimental feature in [3]recent releases . With Blender 5.0 coming out in mid-November, AMD HIP-RT support will finally be declared stable.

While stable for Blender 5.0, it won't be until Blender 5.1 next March when that AMD Radeon ray-tracing support is used by default. Meanwhile [4]NVIDIA OptiX has been working great with Blender for 6+ years .

Declaring Blender 5.0 stable is being done now thanks to [5]this pull request to address random crashes by users on HIP-RT.

Confirmation of HIP-RT stable for Blender 5.0 and enabled for Blender 5.1 was [6]announced during yesterday's Blender Render and Cycles meeting.

[7]Blender 5.0 is currently in beta leading up to the planned 11 November release.
