Google Preparing To Ship Chrome With "--ozone-platform-hint=auto" For Wayland

([Google] 5 Hours Ago --ozone-platform-hint=auto)

Google Chrome/Chromium is preparing to ship with "--ozone-platform-hint=auto" functionality by default so the web browser will play nicer out-of-the-box with Wayland.

[1]This change recently landed within the Chromium codebase for setting the "OverrideDefaultOzonePlatformHintToAuto" feature by default which sets the Ozone platform hint to auto "--ozone-platform-hint=auto" by default if not specified. This will allow Wayland by default in Chrome development builds as an experiment.

This change was tried earlier in July but then backed out due to a GNOME Wayland test case failing, which has since been resolved. Barring any new issues from coming up, this "--ozone-platform-hint=auto" default change should be in the Chrome 140 release later in August. Thus a nicer Wayland Linux desktop experience without having to launch Chrome using the --ozone-platform-hint=auto option manually for those currently leveraging the option.

[2]This ticket since 2016 continues tracking the overall status and related commits to the Ozone platform support for Wayland.
