Last month patches were posted for [1]porting the Linux kernel's "gconfig" graphical kernel configuration utility from GTK2 to GTK3 . It looks like those patches for the GTK3-ified gconfig are ready for upstreaming come Linux 6.17.
Linux developer Masahiro Yamada took care of the work porting the gconfig code from GTK2 to GTK3 for those preferring this graphical user interface alternative to the TUI-based menuconfig or the [2]xconfig that was ported to Qt6 in 2023 .
[3]
The GTK2 gconfig has worked out well but with more Linux distributions working toward removing outdated and unmaintained bits, the port to GTK3 has been overdue.
The GTK3 porting patches were recently queued up within the [4]linux-kbuild.git's for-next branch . With those dozens of GTK3 gconfig patches now queued up as part of the Kbuild code ahead of the Linux 6.17 merge window, this updated UI code should be landing for the Linux 6.17 merge window opening up in late July or early August. In turn Linux 6.17 stable should be out in early October.
