Intel's FFmpeg Cartwheel Brings Experimental Panther Lake Support

([Intel] 5 Hours Ago FFmpeg Cartwheel)

While Q2 is drawing to an end in the coming hours, Intel software engineers this evening just released the Intel FFmpeg Cartwheel 2025Q1 update that provides all of their latest patches around Intel GPU/video acceleration for this widely-used, open-source multimedia library that have yet to be upstreamed into FFmpeg proper.

The Intel FFmpeg Cartwheel is their developer staging area for Intel acceleration patches still working their way to FFmpeg Git. Notable with this 2025Q1 update is providing experimental support for upcoming Core Ultra Series 3 "Panther Lake" SoCs. This set of Intel FFmpeg patches now extend from aging Coffee Lake CPUs on Gen9 graphics up through the next-generation Panther Lake SoCs as well as current-generation Battlemage discrete GPUs.

The Intel patches have also been re-based to work against the newer upstream FFmpeg Git state. Aside from that though there are no other changes listed for this quarterly-ish update to Intel's FFmpeg patch queue. Downloads and more details via [1]intel/cartwheel-ffmpeg on GitHub .

The one L lama, he's a priest
The two L llama, he's a beast
And I will bet my silk pyjama
There isn't any three L lllama.
-- O. Nash, to which a fire chief replied that occasionally
his department responded to something like a "three L lllama."
