AMD Announces New Ryzen AI Z2 SoCs For Gaming Handhelds

([AMD] 4 Hours Ago AMD Ryzen AI Z2)

AMD in cooperation with ASUS and Microsoft used the Xbox Games Showcase for announcing their new Ryzen AI Z2 series processors for gaming handhelds. The new Ryzen AI Z2 series is launching with the new ASUS ROG Xbox Ally / ROG Xbox Ally X handhelds running Microsoft Windows.

The Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme is quite interesting in being Zen 5 based and packing 8 cores / 16 threads with RDNA 3.5 graphics.

The Ryzen Z2 A meanwhile is less interesting in being based on the older Zen 2 architecture and just 4 cores / 8 threads and using RDNA 2 graphics.

The new Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme and Ryzen Z2 A complement the existing Ryzen Z2 Extreme and Ryzen Z2 SoCs previously announced.

That's all for today with no hardware in hand for any Linux testing at this time. The initial ASUS ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X are shipping with Windows and heavily catered to the Microsoft gaming experience but will likely work fine under Linux besides potentially some new ASUS platform driver additions.
