Valve just published the Steam Survey results for May 2025 with a nice increase for the Linux gaming marketshare.
Valve's monthly data for the Steam gaming client shows a nice 0.42% rise for Linux gaming use, now up to 2.69%. This is while macOS ended May at 1.85% and Windows was at 95.45%. While 2.69% may not seem like much, it's been one of the highest points of the Steam Survey for Linux use in a while in percentage terms. In absolute terms given the continuing to grow Steam userbase overall, it's likely the largest ever in absolute terms for Linux gamers - especially with Steam OS and the Steam Deck continuing to enjoy much adoption by gamers.
One year ago for May 2024, Steam on Linux was at [1]2.32% or [2]in May 2023 was at 1.47% .
Much of the modern Steam on Linux success is due to Valve's Steam OS Arch Linux based operating system and in turn their Steam Deck handheld.
Intel CPU use among Linux gamers is up by about 1% for the month.
AMD graphics continue to dominate among Linux gamers between the custom APU within the Steam Deck to AMD Radeon graphics being popular in general due to their open-source drivers.
