The popular Arch Linux derived CachyOS operating system that is known for its nice out-of-the-box performance and other optimizations is out with a new build. CachyOS is closing out the month of May with some nice refinements in its newest ISO refresh of the year.
The CachyOS May 2025 release improves the automatic driver detection support during the live ISO boots to better handle NVIDIA GPUs and ensuring the proper driver is loaded. In turn this should provide better support especially for those on aging GeForce GTX 1000 GPUs and older.
CachyOS has also baked improvements to its Handheld Edition for devices like the Steam Deck and ASUS ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go. The CachyOS Handheld Edition has added the SteamOS Manager software for better managing clock speeds and power settings and other features on the Steam Deck. Plus new audio profiles and better handling of Game Mode.
For Russian users of CachyOS is a new workaround for package manager access. The CachyOS CDN started blocking Russian web traffic and so a workaround is now deployed as a fallback so Russian users can continue proceeding with CachyOS Linux installations.
CachyOS for their monthly update is rounded out by a new Plymouth boot splash animation, updating to Proton 10 in its repository, and shipping various fixes.
