Rav1e v0.8 was released on Monday for this self-proclaimed "fastest and safest AV1 encoder" that makes use of the Rust programming language.
The previous big release was [1]Rav1e v0.7 in late 2023. Now Rav1e v0.8 has arrived and comes with many changes given the year and a half since the prior release.
On x86_64 CPUs at least the Rav1e encoder in my tests still comes up short of the SVT-AV1 video encoder, but at least with making use of the Rust programming language is more focused on encoder security and memory safety. These days GPU-accelerated AV1 encoding is also becoming more common.
In any event for those interested Rav1e v0.8 can be downloaded from [2]GitHub for those interested in this latest work on this premier Rust-based, multi-platform AV1 encoder.
