Two Years In The Making, Intel Linux Driver Enables CPS Compression For Alchemist GPUs

([Intel] 32 Minutes Ago Lossless Compression)

A two year old Intel Mesa merge request was finally merged for Mesa 25.1 today for enabling functionality on DG2/Alchemist GPUs and newer.

The aging merge request is for enabling CPS compression on Intel DG2 hardware and newer. It's a form of lossless CCS compression but details on the merge request are limited. There's also no public word on the performance or power/efficiency benefits of enabling this compression, but at least after two years it's finally merged for the open-source Intel Linux graphics driver code.

See [1]the merge request for those wondering about this Intel CPS compression that will be enabled with next quarter's Mesa 25.1 release. Better late than never in any case and will be interesting to see if it ends up providing any quantifiable impact for end-users.
