GNOME Dash To Panel Extension Development Being "Passed On"

([GNOME] 4 Hours Ago Dash To Panel)

The GNOME Dash To Panel extension that allows moving the dash into the GNOME main panel has proven popular with GNOME desktop users for an integrated icon taskbar and status panel on GNOME Shell. Unfortunately though one of the main developers to Charles Gagnon is "passing on" development of the extension moving forward.

Dash To Panel lead developer Charles Gagnon created a ticket overnight for the project entitled [1]Dash to Panel needs your help! :

"I'll be passing on the Dash to Panel torch. Please let me know if you're interested in contributing to the project."

This seems to be motivated in part by recent backlash the project received over adding a donation button to the dash. [2]This ticket opened two days ago raised frustrations by users over Dash To Panel having an "aggressive" donation button on the panel.

An update to Dash To Panel yesterday since removed the donation page and icon, following a prior release that had already made it easier to hide the donation icon. The donation icon was just introduced a few days ago as part of their release introducing GNOME 48 support.

So for now Dash To Panel will work with the upcoming GNOME 48 release thanks to that recently enabled support, but it's not clear what the development future will hold depending upon if other developers step up to maintain this GNOME Shell extension or if Gagnon returns to developing Dash To Panel.
