Microsoft's Azure Linux 3.0 Adds Valkey, Enables Other New Features

Microsoft has released Azure Linux 3.0.20241005 as the "October 2024" update to the company's in-house Linux distribution.

Azure Linux 3.0 [1]reached GA status this summer and has seen monthly updates since for this Linux OS that powers various Microsoft cloud services and more. With this month's Azure Linux update, [2]Valkey has been added to the distribution as the in-memory data store alternative to Redis. Azure Linux has also added a number of extra PHP and Perl packages and version updates to existing packages.

Azure Linux 3.0 also now enables Iptables support by default, NFSD v4 security labels are now enabled, enabling the VirtIO console by default, the e1000 drivers are now built as modules, and a variety of other changes.

Azure Linux 3.0 also moves to the Linux 6.6.51 LTS kernel or the Linux 6.6.44 RT kernel alongside a number of other package updates in order to obtain security fixes.
