Thanks, but that doesn't tell me much about when it'll be released.

It's already "released", just not enabled by default. You can enable it with gfx.webrender.all and gfx.webrender.compositor.force-enabled (I think) in about:config, and verify in about:support.

Woo-hoo! Some time ago I tried running Firefox on Wayland by setting the MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND environment variable to 1. The result using version 78.0.2 was total garbage: flickering windows, areas that were not updated at all, resizing the window resulted in confusion, etc.

As a shot in the dark I tried enabling Webrender (still on 78.0.2), and it fixed the problems almost completely! Excellent.

Cold be hand and heart and bone,
and cold be sleep under stone;
never more to wake on stony bed,
never, till the Sun fails and the Moon is dead.

In the black wind the stars shall die,
and still on gold here let them lie,
till the dark lord lifts his hand
over dead sea and withered land.
